Noble Mobian Knaves
-The tale of Stryder-

-

-PROLOGUE-

   We cannot wait for salvation.
   We cannot hope for an other-worldly power to deliver us.
   We cannot do anything but hope.
   For when we have hope, we embrace it. Embrace it until our hope becomes action,.
   And we become the hope we sought for.

   We are the glory of our generation. The ones chosen to be the Standard Bearers in our darkest hours. The ones who shine brighter than the Sun would allow. The ones who take Virtue above power, Honor above pride, and Charity over greed.
   For when armies combine and seek malice, when nations plot and deceive, when truth is tainted and disowned, when axes are sharpened, words destroy, honor is stolen, and children weep in the streets because all is lost...
   We are the hope they seek.

   My name is Stryder of Niroga.
   ... but I do not belong here.

-

   To this day, I still can't remember all that happened. For we were caught up in the drunken rage of war. Our beloved legions of Niroga, wielding authority and power over the elements of our home, made war against a force unlike any we had ever seen before.
   Dark, shadowy creatures, vaguely resembling our own kind, but with tainted features; Horns, multiple eyes, misplaced joints, ruined scraps of armor, disorganized ranks. Not even tainted wielders of the elements could have concocted such a foul army.
   Our first encounters were brief, but relentless. Black portals spawned from nothing to deposit their damned horde. These dark beings fell easily to our forces, both fresh and experienced. But their numbers grew with every attack, and continued to molest our peace.
   We had organized patrols at this time, when we encountered an ambush in one of the forsaken plains of Niroga. However, unlike previous encounters, they halted soon after leaving the portal. We were hesitant, appalled by the unprecedented behavior. Soon after, a large being ventured out of the dark abyss too. It's stature was greater than any of the troops around. It's armor, though decorated in the same chaotic fashion, was more organized, and we soon came to a realization that this might be their captain. Being the leader of our troop, I stepped forth.
   The dark being raised a withered finger at me, speaking in a garbled language I could not understand. I stood silent. The being repeated the phrase twice more, but I didn't know what to say.
   I had the rare power of the Element of Spirit, said to be a combination of the six other element that govern our world. At times it had given me inspiration, and so it did at this moment. In a loud voice I stated;

   "We are the caretakers of Niroga! We cannot allow you to taint our home any further! Our land, our lives, and our souls belong to it, and to it alone! You have no place or purpose here, neither claim to the any of the same! Begone, or embrace retreat and death!"

   A moment disguised as an eternity passed. Then the commander shrieked a yell that no doubt echoed miles around. From all directions, this dark legion converged onto us, and onto their destruction. With the very ground they stood on, we swallowed them up and crushed them. With the very air they supposedly breathed, we flung them back into those dreaded portals. With the very darkness we supposed they had embraced, we turned their own soldiers against themselves.
   Despite the immense destruction, the captain stood calm, admirably I might add. Then slowly ventured towards me. My Element of Spirit formed itself into a staff of light, as it had done many times before. The being formed a staff of shadows, in mockery of my ways. It's mighty blows shook the ground with mighty thunder, but such a large being can only move so fast. I struck it's shins, seeing the armor and the leg burst into a purple cloud. But to my surprise, the shadows formed the leg, with even more armor than before! Blow after blow, dodge after dodge, strike after strike, turned this captain into a nightmarish behemoth. Yet, with each strike, the being moved slower, and became more cumbersome, until it became exhausted alone by the sheer amount of armor it bore! A desperate slash came overhead. With ease, I slipped out of it's destructive path, then ran up the staff itself, while the faint commander struggled to lift it again. I buried my staff into it's forehead, and it shrieked a cry louder than the first.
   The armies had fallen, while not one member of our troop stood weak. The captain staggered, blindly groping around from that horrid portal from whence it came. The shadowy armor it bore could no longer hold it's form... Nor could it's body. The arms and legs became swinging tentacles violently flailing around, as the being continued to cry in anguish.
    Pondering upon the scene, I called out triumphantly;
    "When will you learn? Niroga belongs to the Nirogans! There is no part or portion you can take from us!"
   I should have held my tongue...
   The crying ceased, and in a dark, but clear tone, I heard;
   "...Yes we can..."
   Before I could react, one of the dark tentacles incapacitated me. My allies strived to hinder the monster with their elements, but it was in vain.

   I was dragged into the abyss.

End Prologue
"Stryder the Dragon Knight" Prologue
Ok, I've been looking for opportunities to practice some of my writing stuff. Well, being in this "Noble Mobian Knaves" club, they're trying out some storytelling, so I'd figure I'd pitch in too! I'm planning to interlace my story with the others' as well, just as a heads-up.
The only problem is, Stryder already has his own story, and it's not "Camelot/Knight" related at all! Luckily, I'm an artist, and I have the power to take a personal cannon character, and put him into a non-cannon plot! (Kind of like writing an "Alternate Universe" fan fiction, for my own fan character, if that makes any sense...)
So this is just to vaguely describe how Stryder got into the whole "Knight" world theme in the first place. I'm sorry if there's not much comic relief, but I promise to get in some later! In the meantime, enjoy!
